Treatment and education are what we offer to our patients. Healing and learning are what they do within themselves. Communication and relationship invite healing within the person. This therapy provides means for effective communication, relationship and attention, based on the work of Milton Erickson, MD in medical hypnosis, psychotherapy and child development.

Dr. Erickson, during 50 years practice as a psychiatrist and hypnotist, invented many of the forms of modern psychotherapy.

Those who learned from Erickson include the family therapists, brief and strategic therapists, positive psychologists, body-mind practitioners, and all manner of hypnotists. NLP practitioners modeled their work on Erickson, while Trager and Feldenkrais were colleagues of his. Our practitioners hold licenses in psychology, marriage and family therapy, clinical social work, nursing and medicine. We are in all ways a diverse group of highly expert and experienced professionals.

The Milton H. Erickson Institute of the Bay Area (MHEIBA) is an association of licensed professional therapists and Guild Certified Feldenkrais practitioners, all of whom have added therapeutic hypnosis to their practices. Our individual practices are located throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, nationally and internationally. Currently, our members all work online. We incorporate a very wide range of specialties and methods for therapy and healing of the mind and body.

Some of us see many children and families, others concentrate on school age and adolescent problems. We have experts in therapy with couples, and many kinds of individual therapy as well. These range from hypnosis, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral approaches, meditative and visualization strategies and health psychology to Feldenkrais and Rosen body work approaches.

Consultation can be arranged through our individual members’ practices. See our Therapist Locator under “Looking for a Therapist?” Our members provide a wide range of professional trainings and workshops, locally and throughout the world. We teach Ericksonian hypnosis, conflict resolution, Gestalt therapy, working with therapy pets, grief work, workplace relations, and many other topics.
