Ericksonian Approaches to Therapy

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring human state. It’s experienced in the following life situations:

  • Injury and trauma

  • Surprise and confusion

  • High performance

  • Meditative and contemplative states

  • Dreams and visions

The focusing and dissociation of attention which takes place at these times aide us in survival of shock and pain, concentration on narrow goals, and imaginative exploration.

In hypnotic therapy, hypnosis is placed at the service of the patient’s goals. The relationship guides hypnotic trance and the therapist collaborates with the patient to utilize his or her resources, both conscious and unconscious. Each therapy is meant to be highly individual.

You are probably familiar with the uses of hypnosis to help people stop smoking, lose weight, restore sleep in insomnia, overcome phobias, and help realistic positive thinking. Many of these problems attach themselves to other areas of life, so it helps to have hypnosis done by a licensed professional therapist.

MHEIBA’s therapists, male and female hypnotists of great experience, practice throughout the SF Bay Area, nationally and internationally. Currently, all of our members practice online. You can see their photos, bios, and contact information. Some specialize in using hypnosis with addictions, others in the hypnotic treatment of children or couples. Some of our licensed therapists emphasize habit and phobia treatments. Others practice body-based therapies such as Feldenkrais Method.
